12/3/2023 0 Comments Simcity 4 deluxe edition onlyIt's an unbelievable idea that takes a lot of 'work around' etc. I do like that you can cheat the game and create any real-life city from a black and white land elevation map (which are available all over the net) but WHY THE HELL couldn't this have been included in the game as a feature. It serves hardly any purpose and only distracts you from all the things that make SimCity NOT a sims game (and thus enjoyable) Thankfully you can completely ignore this stuff. I welcome any solutions people have found to this, and I assume creating highways etc might cut down.but implementing this takes LOTS of time and $$$.The 'sims' aspect of the game is retarded. Left to their own though, they will make a traffic jam like you've never SEEN. You can spend DAYS and DAYS tellign you citizens to take a certain path, but that would be mind-numbing. Transportation (even with the rush hour pack) still isn't quite right. SUre you can pause the game, but then your not making money.so whats the point? The second problem I find is the citizens inability to use the roads. there is ALWAYS a pressing matter that will take you away from what your doing. You can't simply sit back for a five minutes and watch your city grow, or plant some trees etc. I've been playing on and off for a few years now and overall, I really enjoy the game. There are some problems that make themselves apparent over time though. The biggest one is the amount of micromanagement you need. The game is fun, and you'll be able to get quite a bit done in 1/2 hour of play per session, and it's great to watch sections of your city develop a personality over time. The soundtrack is GREAT and a perfect compliment to 'mayoring' a city. I find the normal setting to be a good ballance, and not quite as sadistic as hard. Keep in mind there is a master difficulty level. A city that will make money isn't tough to do, but a clean, low traffic, low crime, well educated, high tech city that will make money can be hard. I definitely prefer Cities: Skylines over SimCity4 any day, but SC4 will always hold a place in my heart. Its a good game, and make sure you get the version with the rush hour expansion (not sure what the mac version includes though)It's not HARD per say to make a city and have it make money, but it takes a lot of micromanagement, to keep it running smoothly. You can't add your own music (there is the CSL Music Mod which is built for this purpose) You can't rip the music (if you purchase the Deluxe Edition, you are given the soundtrack, a digital artbook, and a few unique buildings for tourists) You can't drive a vehicle around, but there are mods which more-or-less add that functionality The better your graphics car and CPU processors, the better your performance (although, I had 400+ hours dedicated to the game on a potato before I invested in a better pc results may vary) A plethora of DLC add-ons, most developed by the devs and a few by local content-creators (and a couple are FREE!) VERY active community on the Steam Workshop, with new assets (and mods) daily! VERY active devs (no sign of the game losing support or community involvement for several years to come) Actual traffic simulation: base game offers a plethora of road networks, vehicles, and are (to a point) customizable Lack of mod-ability and content creation there are mods available, but not always guaranteed to work first time or how you would think (especially with the U-DriveIt feature) Isometric camera (only four directions to choose from) Practically full control over taxes and spending, such as amount of ambulances for hospitals, or radius of school buses. Ability to drive a vehicle throughout your road networks (U-DriveIt) ![]() A great music soundtrack, with ability to add your own (adding your own to a folder already in the game files - oddly enough, same location you would if you got the disc version of the game) ![]() Built-in bridge style selector, including the Golden Gate Bridge (San Francisco, California) A lot of unique buildings such as casinos and the Empire State Building Sure, SC4 is a classic city builder, but CSL is more modern with current, futuristic, and old-style architecture. ![]() I actually have both on my account, with more hours dedicated to SC4 than CSL (before I had Steam, that is I had the original game on a disc). In terms of city development and overall options, "Cities: Skylines" is definitely preferred.
